Wasabi's Bonding Adventures

Writer's picture: karenkaren

Out of both my gliders, Wasabi has been the more shy of the two gliders. While Mushu was quick to trust me and play, Wasabi was terrified of me.

Female sugar gliders are traditionally harder to bond with compared to male sugar gliders. They tend to be more untrustworthy of strangers.

While they are slightly harder to bond with, each glider is different. Sugar gliders have very different personalities so it's hard to say what will work for each one.

Wasabi, after being with me for around two months, I decided it was time for a bonded tactic that required more one-on-one time. What I decided to do was keep Wasabi in the bathtub with me.

Since the bathtub is quite slipper, she would not be able to escape but instead she started sniffing around. Although this method is different it worked. Wasabi got comfortable quick and proceeded to run around with no fear. She even liked sitting on my head.

While this did not fix her fear of me, it did allow her to become more comfortable with me.
