As I have previously mentioned in past blogs, Sugar Gliders have a very specific diet. Since getting them I have been experimenting with pet food/human food.
I started with pellets and they only ate the dried fruit gummies and let everything else behind. Then I began by giving them a mixture of powder and water that was flavored as berries. They didn't like it. Later, I began giving them a mixture of the pellets and the berry flavored food. They liked it, but never finished their food. Which you would think, "Just give them smaller portions".
But, they were still hungry.
When I tried to play with them, they would jump off me to look for my leftovers in my trash.
Finally, I gave in and decided to buy greek yogurt, fruits and apple juice for them. The greek yogurt is a protein, fruits have vitamins and apple juice for electrolytes. I mixed them all together and topped it with their calcium powder, and they loved it. On the side, I provided them with a small bowl of apple juice. I have never seen them finish food so fast.
The good thing is that they'll be able to eat healthier food. The downside is I have to control their portions very carefully or else they can become obese and die.
This is very interesting! I've never heard of a pet with such a unique, sugar-filled diet. I hope the new food suits them well in the long run! - Sydney Smith
