Mushu: Fiend or Friend?

Sugar gliders diet can be really complicated. They need a mixture of fruits, vegetables, proteins (such as mealworms) and calcium, otherwise their immune systems begin to shut down and they can become very sick.

The name sugar glider even stems from the fact that they eat their foods based on the natural sugars in them. Sugar gliders are suckers for sugar and they love eating sweets, even things like honey (Mushu loves honey).

But as of recently, there has been a culprit who has discovered real people food.

It started when I ordered Buffalo Wild Wings and gave both Mushu and Wasabi some tomatoes that I ended up not eating. Because it was a veggie, they had the green light to eat it.

But then it happened.

I ordered One World's Mac and Cheese, about two weeks later, and made the mistake of leaving my finished up food in the bag which it came in by my trash can, in my room.

Now, Mushu is the more explorative glider, which means he's allowed to go all over my room without any concern because he knows commands such as "come here" and "you're going back into your cage". But this one day where I let him wonder, I discovered him inside that One World bag, licking the leftover cheese from the mac and cheese. And went I tried taking him out, boy was he stubborn. He clawed his paws onto my hands and would not let go.

Now last night, while I was in the middle of my skin care routine, I found him doing the same thing except, I didn't finish my food and accidentally left it where Mushu could find it. I found him running to hide with a piece of a McChicken in his paws.

HE CAN'T EAT CHICKEN.

Now, I tried so hard to take it away. I still have the claw marks on my hand but he held onto my hand (upside down by the way) while I threw out the chicken in the kitchen garbage. At this point, I was getting annoyed but I thought I solved the problem because I got rid of the chicken. I was mistaken. Mushu ran back into that Mcdonalds bag and took out a piece of bread.

At this point I was tired, I had a teeth whitening thing in my mouth and my hair inside a towel. I was over it. I let him eat the bread and decided from now and on. I have to keep my garbage in the kitchen trash can.

Here's a fun video of Mushu being a stubborn hungry boy

I feel like this is such a common challenge with young pets, but I never thought of sugar gliders to have such puppy-like behavior when it comes to table food! These cute stories make me laugh every week. What interesting little animals.

I have honestly never heard of sugar gliders before reading this and I am so intrigued! They act and have so many of the same habits as normalized pets! So excited to see more of them on your blog!

That was such a cute story. Mushu sounds like my dog eating any food we leave around the house.
