A few weeks ago, my sugar gliders had an electrolyte deficiency and that caused a few issues for them. Many many weeks later, I finally scheduled a vet appointment. Unlike most pets, sugar gliders can't have regular vets, they have to go to specialized exoitic pet vets. Finding one in Peoria was a hassle. Luckily, I have one back home but since I won't be able to go back to Chicago for another few weeks, I had to settle for a Peoria vet.
As I am writing this now, I have yet to attend the vet. I am a bit skeptic due to the lack of exotic vets in Peoria and the lack of knowledge on the pets themselves. Mushu and Wasabi are not sick (thank goodness) so they'll just be going for a regular check up and to get their nails trimmed. They've asked me to collect feces from the pets to test at a lab, which I was able to do last night. But as far as information on what this vet trip holds, I have no idea.
Post Vet Visit
After taking my gliders to the vet, they seemed very happy. They were finally able to get their nails trimmed. Now wherever they climb they won't get stuck. Also my arms are no longer going to be stuck with sugar glider scratches.
The vet was awesome. The whole staff seemed to love Mushu and Wasabi. They seemed to be very healthy and at a good weight. Unfortunately this vet couldn't run any test on them or fully check them because they are too small. The good news is they only need to go to the vet once a year, and for their next yearly visit I'll be a lot closer to an exotic pet clinic.
Overall, my babies seem to be a lot happier with their cut nails. They even started playing with their other toys.
I have always wanted a sugar glider and I adore their names! I am so glad they are happy and healthy. Finding a vet can be a hassle no matter where you are so I'm happy you found one you liked and had a good experience with! -Lacey
So happy to hear that they are healthy! I can imagine that finding and going to an unknown vet would be stressful! Super glad that you had an overall positive experience! I love coming to read your blog every week to see the updates!
